Local public health services at risk amid funding uncertainty
The LGA is calling on the Government to urgently publish the Public Health Grant funding allocations. Time is running out for councils to set budgets and spending plans and to make critical decisions on renewing contracts for vital public health services.

NHS Greater Manchester Integrated Care Partnership and the Greater Manchester Older People’s Network: Reducing self-harm in older people
Research published in The Lancet in 2018 (Morgan et al) found that there is an elevated risk of suicide in older people who self-harm, yet older people do not always get access to specialist care. This case study was done jointly with the National Suicide Prevention Alliance and forms part of our suicide prevention resource.
Councils sound cost of living warning as temperatures plummet

Online Safety Bill, Committee Stage (Recommittal), House of Commons, 13 & 15 December 2022
The LGA supports the overall aims of the Online Safety Bill (OSB), which makes provisions for Ofcom to regulate certain internet services. The regulation proposed in this Bill is aimed at ensuring platforms have systems and processes in place to deal with illegal and harmful content and their associated risk.
